Robert D. Larson, Ph.D.
Licensed Psychologist
Following a time of campus ministry in Texas, Dr. Larson decided that his gifts and interests were best suited for the counseling field. His primary vocational focus was how he might be able to work at strengthening marriages and families. He subsequently completed a doctoral degree in counseling psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Since 1982, following a clinical internship in Columbia, Missouri, he has engaged in clinical work with individuals and families. After working for five years at the Family Life Counseling Services in Bryan, Texas, Dr. Larson has spent almost 20 years serving as a psychologist with Lincoln Counseling and Enrichment Associates.
Dr. Larson currently works with individual adults and couples. A primary interest of his is helping couples work through the various marital problems they encounter. He also has done extensive premarital counseling as well as helping individuals work through the process of recovering from divorce. In his work with individuals, Dr. Larson will often use a cognitive-behavioral focus as he targets problems in various areas, including:
- Depression
- Anxiety disorders
- Grief and loss issues
- Adult survivors of abuse
- Relationship problems
Beyond direct clinical work, Dr. Larson has appreciated several opportunities to be involved in the teaching field. He has been an adjunct professor in the Counseling Psychology program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He currently is a faculty member in the Excel Program of Grace University. Dr. Larson is also a member of the American Psychological Association, the Nebraska Psychological Association, and the American Association of Christian Counselors.
In addition to the more formal teaching opportunities listed above, he also enjoys the opportunity to provide teaching and training in a variety of other settings. Of particular interest has been his work in training lay counselors in church and community settings. Marital enrichment and teaching in a variety of other areas have also been ways that he has been able to be of service to the community.
